eHRAF Archaeology Jeoparody Game

Archaeology Jeopardy

In homage to the late Alex Trebek (1940-2020), host of the television game show Jeopardy! for 37 years, we are pleased to share a new interactive HRAF game: eHRAF Archaeology Jeoparody. A play on the popular TV quiz show, this follow-up to our first interactive HRAF game was produced by digital anthropologist, Dr. Francine Barone. It is available to download for free in Teaching eHRAF, our open-access repository of teaching exercises.

eHRAF Archaeology Jeoparody* is an introductory archaeology class activity based on HRAF and the eHRAF Archaeology database. The game runs in a fun, animated presentation complete with sound effects, transitions, and a “Final Jeoparody” round. It contains six categories of questions and answers. True to the original TV quiz show, the “answers” are provided as prompts, and responses should come in the form of a question.

The categories are:

  • eHRAF Archaeology Facts: How well do you know our database?
  • Name That Tradition: Clues point to the name of a culture or tradition in eHRAF Archaeology.
  • Great Discoveries: Can you identify these famous artifacts, sites, or monuments?
  • Dig It: Dust off your fieldwork vocabulary.
  • It’s a Date: Name some common archaeological dating methods.
  • Which Sub-field?: How many types of archaeology can you identify?
  • Final Jeoparody: Now and Then

Download & Play

The game is designed for classroom use and requires PowerPoint to present the activity. To read the full category descriptions, related study materials, suggestions for classroom use, and technical requirements, view or download the notes to instructors in Teaching eHRAF. It can be played as-is, or instructors may modify the slides to make changes to the questions or answers.
