Fishing will play an important role in the development of viable alternatives to cultivation.
Note
Support for this hypothesis primarily hinged on the finding that fishing was a significant contributor (over 10% of total subsistence base) in 60% of clusters, and almost ubiquitous in subsistence economies classified as "mixed economies."
