Hypothesis

The function of pets will be cross-culturally different from the view of pets as playthings and emotional surrogates for children.

Note

The results show that the most common function of dogs is for hunting purposes and rarely described as playthings. Cats are commonly used for vermin removal. Birds are the most commonly described as playthings.
