Hypothesis

Conditions requiring abstinence and periods of abstinence are negatively associated with Population Growth Rate (PGR) (66).

Note

Conditions requiring abstinence and periods of abstinence are measured as a composite of 8 variables, including duration of postpartum abstinence, requirements of abstinence for warfare, economic reasons, mourning, religious occasions, widowhood, and illness, and increased susceptibility to supernatural dangers requiring abstinence.
