Abstract

In an attempt to measure the universality of love, these researchers tested the Triangular Theory of Love on 9 non-WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) societies with data from 2013-2024. Although the results cannot be generalized to non-WEIRD societies and are not fully representative of their respective cultures, it does support the theory of universal love and shows similar trends as those in WEIRD societies. Future studies should build off these findings with a wider sample that takes industrialization and globalization into account.
