Hypothesis
Cold-climate societies, in contrast to warm climate societies, will have higher functional use of owls.
Note
36.8% of cold-climate societies had functional use for owls but only 16.5% of warm-climate societies. A Chi-square revealed the value of owls for clothing or ornamentation, Chi-square(1) = 13.39, p < .001, two-tailed test. However, owls were not considered edible, Chi-square(1) = 2.43, ns. Furthermore, a t-test adds support for the finding of higher functional use of owls in cold-climate rather than warm-climate societies, T-value = 2.39, p < .025.
