The role of the father: an anthropological perspective

The Role of the Father in Child Development John Wiley & Sons New York, NY Published In Pages: 155-185

Hypothesis

Variation in paternal care within a species will be correlated with variation in socioecological conditions (157).

Note

Several tests were run separately and authors found that "father-infant proximity is greatest where either gathering or 'horticulture' is the primary mode of subsistence and where combinations of polygyny, patrilocal residence, the extended family, or patridominant division of labor are absent" (172).
