Hypothesis
Distribution of subsistence activities will vary by world region (38).
Note
Hunting is most likely to be present (91% of all societies) and animal husbandry least likely (62% of all societies. The Circum-Mediterranean has the lowest incidence of gathering (33%) and fishing (49%), but hunting is present in 81% of all societies. Agriculture is present in only 32% of North American societies, where hunting, gathering, and fishing predominate. In South America, 95-100% of societies are involved in hunting, athering, and fishing, as well as 88% that are involved in agriculture. In the Insular Pacific, fishing and agriculture have the largest percentages.
