Hypothesis
Capital crimes are most likely to be offenses that directly threaten individuals (homicide, stealing, religious violations, and sexual offenses) (p. 45).
Note
32/51 (61%) of cultures believe that homicide should lead to the death penalty. Stealing, sacrilegious acts, and sexual offenses are considered worthy of capital punishment in 26/51 cultures (51%). Other crimes punished are treason (14/51) and desertion in war (2/51).
