Levels of jurisdictional hierarchy will vary according to world region (48).
Note
60% of all sample societies have one or no levels of jurisdiction beyond the local level. The Circum-Mediterranean has the highest proportion of societies with more two or more levels beyond the local level (60%), followed by East Eurasia (37%) and Africa (32%).
