Bride price and bride service are m,ost prevalent in Africa (90%), the Circum-Mediterranean (69%), East Eurasia (62%), and South America (49%). Token or nonexistent exchange is present in in 56% of North American societies, while exchange of persons or gifts is found rarely except in Insular Pacific societies (30%).
