Is homosexuality more prevalent in agropastoral than in hunting and gathering societies?: Evidence from the Standard Cross-Cultural Sample

Hypothesis

Homosexuality will be more prevalent in agropastoral than in hunting-gathering societies when controlling for social stratification. (7)

Note

The authors suggest that since social stratification covaries with subsistence type, it may account for the effect on prevalence of homosexuality. However, social stratification is only a marginally significant predictor (p = .087), while subsistence type, when dichotomized, is significant (p = 0.049). The author acknowledges the problem of multicollinearity, but also reports that when controlling for both social stratification and community size, subsistence type is marginally significant (p = 0.075), and neither control is.
