Hypothesis

Location (squared latitude) is significantly related to rates of collectivism and hierarchism among preindustrial societies (2).

Note

Latitude was tested both linearly (not significant) and squared to test for the presence of a bell-shaped curve. Collectivism was a factor score made up of seven ordinal codes regarding ingroup control over members. Hierarchism was a factor score based on 12 original codes regarding leadership centrality and authority.
