Hypothesis

Genital mutilation/cutting is associated with the presence of bride-price.

Note

This is tested for each form of GM/C. Bride-price is the only variable tested against GM/C. Bride-price is included in every GM/C model, and is a particularly good fit for FGM/C and infibulation. The correlated evolution model finds that GM/C is more likely to develop in societies where a bride-price is present.
