Hypothesis

There is gender bias in the phonological structure of parent terms.

Note

"There is positive evidence for [ηa] and [na] more commonly referring to mother, and that [pa] and [ta] more commonly refer to father... [ma], which is often thought to be linked to mothers, is actually equally linked to father."
