Hypothesis

Societies will shift linearly across the stages of land ownership associated with subsistence strategies.

Note

The rectilinear model suggests: 1) nomadic phase is related to no land ownership, 2) pastoralist phase is related to groups owning land, 3) first agricultural phase is related to patrilineal kin groups owning land, 4) second agricultural phase is related to individual farmers owning land.
