Hypothesis
Ancestral history of irrigation in a country's population predicts lower levels of political empowerment for women.

Significance based on Table 1 OLS before controls; coefficient is not standardized so is not reported. Women's political empowerment is based on three factors, additionally individually tested and found to be significant: Women's civil liberties, Women's civil society participation, and Women's political participation.
