Hypothesis
Horticultural subsistence activity will be negatively associated with political centralization (218).
Note
5% of horticultural societies are states and an additional 15% chiefdoms, which depend on cultivation for over half of their subsistence. The remaining 80% represent a wide range of cultivation dependence.
