Uniformity in Dress: A Worldwide Cross-Cultural Comparison

Human Nature Vol/Iss. 34 Springer Science+Business Media Published In Pages: 359–380
By Ember, Carol R., McCarter, Abbe, Ringen, Erik J.

Hypothesis

Higher resource stress will predict higher synchrony of dress.

Note

Higher resource stress is positively related to three of four latent variables: 1). permanent adornment, standardization and rules; 2). non-permanent adornment, standardization; and 3). clothing standardization and non-permanent adornment rules. Resource stress does not predict the fourth latent factor: more rules about clothing.
