HRAF Global Scholar: Dr. Jorge E. Miceli

Research Topic: Dietary Patterns of Indigenous Peoples in Northern Canada
Dr. Jorge E. Miceli is a researcher at Universidad de Buenos Aires and part of a research project that is financed and accredited by the university which examines the dietary patterns of indigenous peoples in Northern Canada. Dr. Miceli studies rural populations in the Labrador region, with a particular focus on the Innu (NH06) people.
Access to the eHRAF World Cultures database has been instrumental in the early stages of this project. While familiarizing himself with the database’s Advanced Search feature, Dr. Miceli has identified several coded subjects that provide a valuable starting framework for the study. These include:

Dr. Miceli brings to this project a wide-ranging academic background that enriches his approach to anthropology. He earned his Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from Universidad de Buenos Aires, following a master’s degree in Discourse Analysis from the same institution. He is currently completing a master’s degree in the Generation and Analysis of Statistical Data at Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero.
His areas of specialization include:
- Linguistic models and discourse analysis
- Statistical methods applied to the social sciences
- Social network models in discourse research (reticular discourse analysis)
- Database design and programming for anthropological and linguistic uses
- Computational modeling, simulation, and prototypes of artificial societies for the social sciences
