Anthropology Day is a day for anthropologists to celebrate our discipline while sharing it with the world around us. This year, World Anthropology Day will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2020.
The Human Relations Area Files at Yale University is hosting an event for Anthropology Day at our offices in New Haven, CT. We will be welcoming a wonderful group of anthropology students for a day of talks at HRAF along with a museum field trip. Up to 15 students from the University of Connecticut, in coordination with the UConn Stamford Anthropology Society, have been invited to take part in our dedicated HRAF event.
The morning will consist of a talk by our President, Carol Ember, about HRAF’s history and cross-cultural research, followed by additional informal talks from HRAF staff on a variety of anthropological themes. Abbe McCarter – our Melvin Ember Intern – will be presenting on gender, art, and clothing, while Research Assistant Emily Pitek will cover adolescence, sharing behaviors, and her work with the Database of Religious History.
After lunch, students will be taken on a tour of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History arranged by our Manager of Outreach and Member Services, Matthew Longcore.
Many thanks to the UConn Stamford Anthropology Society for joining us to learn more about anthropology and archaeology at HRAF!
